Advice on Homework

Homework

  • You can always ask your parents/gaurdian for help with homework.
  • If you have questions about your homework, ask your teacher.
    • If you get at the very end of class, stay and ask your teacher and they should give you a pass to your next class.
  • STAY ORGANIZED
    • Losing homework will definitely not help your grade or your teacher's patience with you.
  • Do NOT procrastinate!
    • Procrastinating (waiting until the last minute to do something) will never help you.
    • When you are assigned a project that is due in a week, try to plan ahead and realize when your free nights and busy nights are so that you don't end up doing it at eleven o'clock the night before it's due.
  • Eat healthy snacks. Before you start the stack of homework, eat something healthy to feed your brain. Healthy foods get your brain working. Fruits, nuts, popcorn, ect...
  • Pick your place. Do your homework where you feel most comfortable. Where you work shouldn't have distractions, but inspiration.
  • NO DISTRACTIONS!
    • Keep your phone far away from you!
    • Keep the TV off!
    • No distractions will help you stay focused and get your work done.
  • Set a timer. Try to beat the clock! Say, "I have to finish math by 5:00" Make sure the time is a realistic amount to finish. You will think faster and focus better.

Test Prep
  • Work with friends. Suppose you know all about the Americans in the Revolutionary War and your best friend knows all about the British. You need to know both sides to pass your social studies test. Work together to be a master at both.
  • Tests are nerve-racking and you usually say, "Ugh....a test..." Make it fun to study! You could have a gameshow with your friends. Take turns competing and being the host.
  • Become the teacher. Teach your friends or family the information you need to memorize. If you go over the information over and over with different people, you'll soon be a master!
  • Test yourself. Go over your notes. Write questions about the information on a piece of paper. Hide all your notes and information and see what you know! What you don't get right on your fake test, review. Test yourself until you know everything.

Mostly everything on this page came from own experience and what works for me and have worked for others (friends). I had used a book to help, but mostly what is in the book was also from my own experiences and my own thoughts.
